Instead of resumes…

bellahugo:

I need to start making employers fill out applications.

  • Do you have what it takes to not waste my time?
  • In 500 characters or less, explain why, out of all the possible careers in the world, yours should have the honor of my lateness…
  • …that I would even show up for this fake shit

This summer I didn’t eat smartly or get enough sun or make it to the ocean. I was tested on all fronts, and I’m not positive on how well I’ve done. But somehow I feel very good about this fall, as if a few bad habits will die once and for all with the browning of the trees—as if this is the time where the right things stay and the wrong things leave.

"I don’t trust people who think of themselves as liberals. What I am saying is that I don’t trust missionaries. I don’t want anybody working with me because they think they are doing something for me. What I want them to do is work in their own communities. I want you to tell your brothers and your sisters and your wife and your children what it is all about. Don’t tell me, because I already know."

If you obsess over whether you are making the right decision, you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you for one thing and punish you for another.

The universe has no fixed agenda. Once you make any decision, it works around that decision. There is no right or wrong, only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought, feeling, and action that you experience.

If this sounds too mystical, refer again to the body. Every significant vital sign—body temperature, heart rate, oxygen consumption, hormone level, brain activity, and so on—alters the moment you decide to do anything… decisions are signals telling your body, mind, and environment to move in a certain direction.
